The Story Behind the Design
ATE is a minimalist Filipino T-shirt honoring older sisters and the women we lovingly call Ate.
In Filipino culture, Ate means older sister. It is also a respectful way to address an older girl or woman, even without a family relationship. A familiar word that can carry affection, trust, and a sense of belonging.
She may be the sister who helped raise you, the woman who made a new country feel like home, or the Ate whose quiet support held everyone together. Some care for family close by. Others carry that responsibility across oceans.
The understated a·te lettering celebrates the word itself. On the back, a simple tribute expresses the meaning beyond its definition:
an older sister to some,
a mother to many.
Part of MadeInPinas’ DIWA collection—Beyond Words—ATE honors the everyday care that becomes part of who we are.
